Beat the Heat with these Delicious Tea-Based Cocktails

Summer is the time for pool parties, backyard barbecues and patio get-togethers with friends. Why not spruce up the summer menu with some refreshing at home cocktails, infused with this season’s juiciest, fruitiest teas from DAVIDsTEA? We’ve tried and (taste) tested DAVIDsTEA’s summer lineup and have concocted five summer soiree-ready libations, perfect to beat the heat during the day, or to help wind down those hot summer nights. Now relax, enjoy and sip to your heart’s content.

How to make iced tea:
Most of the teas have a water-to-tea ratio on the packaging, however you usually want four heaping scoops of tea for every two to three cups of boiling water per pitcher, as the rest of the recipe will consist of ice and libations. Adjust steep time according to personal preference, though four minutes should be sufficient. Want virgin versions of these spritzers? Skip the booze and add various fruit juices to get the taste you want. Swap any of the sparkling water options for pop beverages for added sweetness, or flat water if you’re not a fan of the carbonated cocktails. These recipes are just guidelines—half the fun is mixing them and changing the flavour according to your preference, so don’t forget to taste test before you serve!

Mint Julep

This tea makes for a great mojito-inspired cocktail for the mint lovers, but is also an optimal option for experimentation with other flavours. Light and refreshing, the fresh mint invigorates your tastebuds and instantly cools you down from the inside out. Want even more freshness? Add a touch of fresh-squeezed lemon juice for an instant burst of zestiness.

Mint Julep

-Fresh mint leaves, crushed or whole
-1 tbsp of raw sugar (or ¾ tbsp of agave sweetener)
-½ cup of vodka (any kind will do—we used Grey Goose!)
-1 cup of gingerale
-ice

Tropicalia

Imagine lazing on a white sand beach in the Caribbean with the hot sun beating on you while you sip your island concoction. Voilà! You have Tropicalia. This piña colada-inspired tea has coconut, pineapple and apple for a sweet and fruity beverage that will transport your mind to far off exotic islands. Little umbrella not included. Feeling extra exotic? Blend over ice for a real colada beverage!

Pink Passionfruit

So apropos for a ladies night, this pretty pink tea melds perfect with the mixed berries and pomegranate. Want to switch it up? Opt for a pretty magenta sangria by swapping in some white wine or rosé!

Mango Fruit Punch

Another tropical vacation in a glass, the fruity, juicy mango works well with the peach liqueur as it adds and extra zesty fruit dimension in addition to the pineapple, mango and tangerine flavours already present. Want more bubbles? Add some champagne and orange juice for mango fruit punch mimosas!

Coconut Grove

With a little less pineapple than its Tropicalia counterpart, Coconut Grove is all coconut, all the time. So we thought, why not add a dash more? If you’re a huge coconut fan, this will be your summer drink of choice—but be sure to play around with the juice flavours. Coconut tastes good with pretty much everything! Add some extra decorative fun with pineapple wedges as well.
