The acai berry has been topping the headlines recently, since its entry into the superfood hall of fame has gained it a reputation as one of the healthiest foods on our planet.
Research has established that the acai berry contains antioxidants that may be able to protect the body’s cells from turning cancerous. In addition, it is rich in a wide range of vital vitamins, meaning that the acai berry is a valuable addition to anyone’s diet.
However, the acai berry has not merely gained its fame due to its health giving properties – the acai berry weight loss industry is additionally developing at a rapid pace.
Today not only is the acai berry marketed as a valuable addition to an everyday diet but in addition, its use as a weight loss supplement is being aggressively pushed by many companies.
Many businesses claim that an acai berry weight loss diet can have miraculous affects. The dieting industry is infamous for its ability to make outlandish and unfounded claims and the acai berry weight loss sector is no exception. Claims that 7 pounds can be lost in 7 days are commonplace, with some companies choosing to state that their products can instil weight loss of 20 pounds in a single week.
The truth is – they are both lies.
While it is entirely possible to lose 7 pounds in a 7 day period, most of this weight loss will be water rather than actual fat. Water is shed very quickly which is why initial weight loss is seemingly quite significant. It is after the first week or two that the rate at which weight is lost slows to a more realistic pound or two a week – it is only once this happens that the body should be losing fat as opposed to water.
Due to this, anyone who believes that an Acai Berry Weight Loss diet has resulted in their being half a stone lighter can actually put their achievements down to simple science. Such a claim is merely a way to make dieters believe the acai berry works to such an effect, when the reality is, it does not.
However, an acai berry weight loss diet can work, but only in combination with a healthy, calorie restricted diet and exercise.
The acai berry can benefit weight loss largely for two reasons. Firstly, the berry is abundant in fibre. Fibre is an essential ingredient in keeping the body feeling full, so those consuming a diet high in fibre (whether through the consumption of the acai berry or other methods) should feel that they need to eat less, and less often.
It is also proven that those who eat a healthy, vitamin rich diet will have more energy, thereby making it easier for them to exercise and for longer periods.
The thing is that while it is easy to lose weight through a very low calorie diet, the dieter will have no energy meaning that they are unable to exercise. Weight lost in this manner will be dramatic, but it is likely that it is not only fat that will be lost, but muscle too, and that once the diet ceases, the weight will pile back on.
It is clear then that the acai berry is deserving of its superfood status. In addition, an acai berry weight loss diet can work – however whether it is that much more beneficial than a weight loss diet based around vitamin rich foods is debateable.
What does serve in the acai berries favour is that unlike many synthetically produced weight loss supplements, an acai berry weight loss diet is completely natural. At worst the acai berry will lead to limited weight loss but an all-round healthier body, and at best it will result in the fitter, slimmer and healthier body that is every dieter’s desire.
