So summer is well and truly looming down on us; forcing us to change our wardrobes, see our friends and family a bit more and hopefully allowing us to take a well deserved break from work. What better way to wind down from the throws of work and exhausting home life than kick back and take a sip of your favourite cocktail.
But let’s be honest; we can all pop down the shops and in a minute have the ingredients for our favourite tipple. But what about if you could drink it in Europe; where would you go? We would suggest you find the most amazing rooftop terraces and proceed to marvel at the vistas of 5 of Europe’s most iconic and beautiful views.
Which is why we have outlined below what we consider to be the top 5 rooftop bars in Europe… A contentious and subjective issue of course, but one which we think we have given a very good stab at defining:
Queen Elizabeth Hall Roof Garden Bar & Cafe – London
So what other city could you start your rooftop adventure of Europe in other than London? As you would expect London has its fair share of terraced places to drink; however we think we have pinned down the number one spot. The Queen Elizabeth Hall Roof Garden Bar & Cafe is situated bang on the river Thames with views overlooking the Houses of Parliament, the Southbank & the London Eye. It isn’t the most lavish out there, but the views are exquisite (especially at dusk) and you couldn’t be better placed to enjoy the rest of the city.
Albergo Lorelei et Londres – Italy
Bit of a change of pace now as we head to the south coast of Italy to a town called Sorrento, not far from Napoli. This coastline is famed for its views and the Albergo Lorelei et Londres has an extremely prime position. Perched at the top of a mountainous outcrop, diners and social drinkers can enjoy some of the most amazing views of the Tyrrhenian Sea and the bay of Sorrento. Mmmmn, lazy afternoon, some friends and a bottle of wine… perfection.
Cafe Bar Thalassa – Skopelos Town, Greece
Another amazing coastal view – now from Cafe Bar Thalassa on the Greek island of Skopelos. Everyone will agree that there is hardly a more breathtaking sight than Greek architecture clashing vividly with the azure blue of the Aegean Sea. Which is why heading to Cafe Bar Thalassa is a real no-brainer; surely the only sensible thing to do would be to sit down, have a drink and let the southern Mediterranean sun soak through you.
The Penthouse – Madrid, Spain
What would you expect from the husband of super model Cindy Crawford… no expense spared? Which is pretty much what you get from the uber –modern and extremely popular Penthouse bar. Wear your good shoes; as the crowd here seem to know how to dress. Also don’t plan on being too fashionably late as although doors close at 3am there is a LINE from before midnight.
Long Island Summer Lounge – Frankfurt
If you are looking for fun then put down your maps and book those flights to Germany. The Long Island Summer Lounge is basically a massive rooftop sun deck located in the heart of Frankfurt. It is maritime themed, which means all employee’s are dressed as sailors! Make sure you check the format of the night you are attending as nights range from relaxed and informal to very lively indeed.
