Toronto Fashion Week Presents Dare to Wear Love Challenge 2013

Celebrating both the talents of Canada’s fashion design community and performing artists as well as a passion of using fashion for good, the annual DARE TO WEAR LOVE campaign is helping to turn the tide on the AIDS pandemic in Africa–and in the most exciting way! The Dare to Wear Love Challenge is a preclude to the Dare to Wear Love Gala which is the highlight of Toronto Fashion Week in March. Founders of Toronto-based Hoax Couture, Chris Tyrell and Jim Searle, each year invite 25 top Canadian Fashion Designers to participate by providing them with 6 yards of African fabric to create a one-of-a-kind ensemble. We are talking fabulous Canadian designers like Greta Constantine, Adrian Wu, Ines Di Santo, Mackage, and many more all contributing to this wonderful cause by showcasing their talents.

For weeks leading up to the big show, Canadians are asked to display their #CanadianCool by wearing Canadian-made fashions and displaying it through social media while also raising funds. It’s such a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our own community spirit while also being able to benefit the communities of others across the globe. All profits are benefiting the Stephen Lewis Foundation, which works with community-level organizations supporting women, orphaned children, grandmothers and people living with HIV and AIDS.

It’s such a pleasure to be participating in this campaign and I hope to make it an annual effort! I’ve volunteered my time with orphan children in Kenya with HIV a few years ago and know how great of a pandemic this is. It’s definitely a time for me to feel proud to be Canadian in order to benefit this fantastic cause. I’ve also teamed up with Live Laugh Love Juice‘s Candice James to make an even greater contribution. In addition to reaching out to our friends and families, we are asking for YOUR support! We have two beautifully crafted gift baskets full of natural, organic skin care products (valued at $120 each) that we are providing as a raffle for your support. For any donation of $10 or more you will receive a ballot that will enter you in our giveaway–enter yourself as much as you like! (Every $10 will automatically count as a ballot, they don’t need to be separate donations).
